Super Pinstripe....????

DavidKendrick Aug 05, 2007 11:08 PM

I don't follow the Ball World as much as I would like, but has anyone produced a Super Pinstripe? or are they like Spiders and have been proven to be just Dominant? I have heard rumors that someone did produce one, but that they are pretty deformed...but then I have also heard that many Pinstripe breeders are just dangling that Super form out there as long as they can to make the sales of Pinstripes stay up for longer...at some point, someone has got to either produce one or we all have to admit that its just Dominant like the spider...right? Or has either one of those been proven yet? I might be WAY behind the times...just trying to catch up...

The Super Woma is another one I was curious about...its been proven...with the "Pearl" but it seems like not many people are working with the Womas...Are "Pearls" really different...or interesting?

well I heard tell of the super pin but I've seen no proof and the dust kind of settled and everyone moved on...if one was produced and there were problems with it then like the spider it would TECHNICALLY be co-dom but most consider it dominant because no change is made besides the problem. if you do a google image search for a "pearl ball python" you can see a picture and they are stunning! but again I hear tell that they have problems too! but again thats just hear-say.

the problems with the pearl are not hearsay, the source is the creator. pearls are weak, pitiful snakes that don't do well. I believe one was produced last year crossed with a lesser and it was doing better but not sure if it made it or not.

What exactly are you saying about spider? Do you have good reports of a homozygous spider? I know I've speculated that possible reasons we haven't seen a public proven homozygous spider include that spider might be homozygous lethal or in some way not presentable. But that is not backed up by any evidence (just as the claim that spider is dominant is not backed up by any public evidence of a proven homozygous spider).

Randy, thats a euphemistic way to put it...

Can someone say three-headed, four-eyed, bat-faced monster?

Lol!

Carry on all.

I suppose a picture is not likely? Are they able to survive to breed and completely prove that they are homozygous spider?

zefdin Aug 07, 2007 06:23 AM

I was only kidding. I liked the way you said that maybe they are not presentable for the public... I thought that was a nice way of putting it.

Sooner or later, with $500 dollar spiders, someone is going to breed 2 of them and then tell the story. Its only a matter of time now...

Thanks but be careful joking about things like that. People get very touchy about even pointing out the possibilities and I read your post to mean you where confirming that there was a problematic homozygous spider. I really don't think it's that big of a deal even if the homozygous spider is less than perfect or not viable. The heterozygous spiders still make great combos. We now know about the spinning in het spiders and our best guess is that it doesn't greatly affect their quality of life based on feeding and breeding success.

But already I think many are afraid to try the spider X spider to test for a homozygous spider. I'm still a couple years away from being able to try spider X spider (don’t even have a female yet but might in a couple months). I will not risk creating problematic homozygous spiders if there are reliable reports that is what they are like by then. On the other hand, homozygous spiders could be perfect (or as near as heterozygous spiders) but with twice the spider offspring and the general public has already avoided producing them unnecessarily. It just seems like we should have more answers well into the 9 spider hatching seasons.

Pearls have "motor skill" problems that hasn't shown to improve even when outcrossed (i.e. Lesser Pearls). There's also some question as to which line of Womas produce these, meaning I don't think that all womas are equal (hidden gene rumors and other such cloak and dagger secretive claims) LOL

The possible super pin was an animal that Brian of BHB hatched that had potential to be something new. He didn't want to make any false claims before proving it as such so that's why the lull in "new" info. At the time there had been much fewer pin to pin breedings, I am guessing that quite a few people tried this year for one and unless ones being held back as a surprise release for Daytona then the possible super was just an exceptional animal that hatched by chance. Both Kevin and Brian visit here so if there's anything "declassified" to add and they aren't too busy getting ready for the show I'm sure they will. Daytona is going to sensory overload for morph enthusiasts this year.

All this is just what's been "out there" as far as information. Of course, with Ball Pythons there's lots of secrets, incomplete stories, and disinformation so anything you hear without having the animals themselves and breeding them should be taken as what it is...
