Clutch shows signs of dimples ?

balls4all Aug 06, 2007 02:05 AM

I have a clutch in the incubator that had adhered together before they could be seperated. I am using the no substrate method with a 6qt tub and perlite. The temps are consistant at 88-90 , I had planned to use a 6qt with lid but due to the height of the cluch because I couldnt seperate I had to use another 6qt inverted as the lid. They have been in the incubator for 1week and looks like the eggs on top of the clutch have small dimples like there dry ? I have an additional 6qt filled with water on the bottom of the incubator for extra humidity.........And tonight I added some papertowels that are damp to the egg box .......Any opinions would be appreciated , I really dont want to lose any of this clutch.

If your incubator will accomidate I would place the clutch into a larger plastic box one where you could Fill 2 inches of the container with vermiculite. I use a sustrate formula of one to one ratio by weight of water to vermiculite. I learned many years ago when I use to breed colubrids to drill a 1/8 inch hole at each end of the nest box aproximatly 1 inch below the lid. This will allow a slight amount of air movement, but will keep the humidity level where it needs to be. Dig a slight impression into the substrate when placing the eggs into the nest box. Slightly cover the bottom eggs with the vermiculite.

I'm confident that if you are able to do this your eggs will turn out just fine.

If you have any questions you can call me on my cell at (408)981-6694.

Good luck

here's an idea, use a larger egg box, one that will allow the use of a proper lid.
