Hunting the Trans Pecos.

reptilefreak19 Aug 19, 2003 06:15 PM

Me and a friend are thinking of heading down to Mexico for some fun and was wanting to pull off some hunting along the way.
The thought crossed are minds to hunt the Trans Pecos and get some pictures but we don't know if It'd be worth the time or not being this would be our first time there and we are hoping and wanting to find a few things but what I was wondering if this a good time of the year to go or would it be a waste of gas to go out of our way? Mind you its just for pics and more fun on our trip.
Any advice would be great.

Hot, no rain to speak of, but that's not going to detour me from going in less than 2 weeks. Might be good, might be bad. You just don't know till you get there. I've been down many, many times with this same scenario and have observed many herps, few herps but never not any herps ! You just don't know...........

Look at my post on the gray banded kingsnake forum (labeled west tx august or something). You might want to try and herp the trans pecos. If you want to know the right roads, post a question on the grayband forum, and they'll hook you up.

I went out looking a bit last night in the hill coutry. We have had a few sprinkles here and there so I figured what the heck. I only stayed out about 2 hours but saw 2 black neck garters, 1 emory rat, 2 atrox and quite a few frogs. I didn't quite make it to hwy 277 but got within 40 miles of it and still saw some frogs. Maybe stuff will be moving for ya..JP
