questions about driftwood and plants

WaGuy82 Aug 19, 2003 06:33 PM

In in the process of putting together my bearded dragon's home. I dipped several pieces of driftwood in a diluted bleach solution. Probably 1 part bleach to 8 part water. My question is, it's just a dip. I assume this is good enough. Given two-three days, the bleach will have precipitated or evaporated. Is this correct? If neccessary, I can place them in the oven. What temperature would I head the oven up to?

Also, my question is regarding safe bearded dragon plants. Is there any website or caresheet listing plants that are safe for bearded dragon. I'd probably just use one or two, but I'd buy quite a few and rotate them. I'm designing the cage now, but I will give it 3-4 months before the tank is mature and my bearded dragon's big enough to move into it.

Thanks again!

Beutiful dragons has some safe plants but it is mainly for food, I know there's cactus ficus(Not a good choice, needshigh humidity and lots of water) Jade plant and any succulants from desert but only indoor plants.

You should soak the wood in the bleach solution for an hour or so, then soak it over night in straight water. Then let it dry in the sun for a day (or more, depending on size of wood). Alternatively you can bake it in the ovan for about 2 hours at 300 F.

I suggest conducting a search on plants in this forum as there have been links posted for save plants to put in with your dragon. Only thing is, most plants do not survive long in a beardie's cage due to two things. High heat/dryness and the dragon (either tries to eat the plant or tramples all over it).
