Rock Bass

Justin Stricklin Aug 19, 2003 06:35 PM

I have been using small rock bass for about 2 weeks and they sem so much better than shiners. The snakes seem to be feeding alot better and will acept food every time i offer it. Even those 2 that I could not get to eat before. They must have a better scent, probbaly because that and small bream is what they would eat in the wild mostly (excluding frogs). The only prob. I have found with them is the fens are very spiky, but that can be taken care of with scissors. I usually don't cut them unless the snake repeatadly tries swalowing backwards. If anyone knows of anything bad about them please let me know.

Rock Bass around here (upper Midwest) seem to be especially prone to parasite infestation.

Hmmmm. That is something to think about, but these that I got are from the same pond that the guy owns who raises minnows in it. It sis actually like his pond is getting infested witht them and killing all the shinners. He will drain the pond very soon and I will go over there and get the things that he said he's going to kill, which are snakes, turles, and rock bass. I will relocate most snakes/turles though.
