Help...stunted growth!!!

jwcfolife Aug 06, 2007 03:08 PM

I recently took a ball python from a friend that did not take care of it appropriatly. He is roughly 3 feet 2 inches long but about 4-5 years old. My other friends 5 year old male is almost 5 feet! He told me he would feed him once a month! Will my pythons growth be permanently affected or can i get it back on track and get it to grow to its full potential?

It will continue to grow but it will be a slow growth , being that it is 4-5 years old it is past the point in its life when it would have rapped growth but it will probably not get to the 5 ft. range it will more than likely only get to about 4-4.5 ft. David of DS Reptile Rescue

In my opinion, a 5 foot male is not an average size, but an extreme. I would not worry about the other snake, it is fine. Might be underfed, but 3 1/2 feet (I think you said) is a fine length for male. I would just make sure it has good weight.
Females are larger than males and a five foot female is a heck of a good size snake.
