Thermostat Questions

ziggenz67 Aug 06, 2007 05:14 PM

I have a few rack and had some problems with the heat tape melting some tubs. I put a dimmer switch on the heat tape and that was pretty useless, my tubs were getting up to 120 degrees. So now I looking into getting a thermostat. What brands are the best and easiest to use? Also how does a single probe keep track of multiple tubs? Do I need multiple probes as well? Any help would be great.

I would recommend any thermostat by zoo med as their products tend to be the best. I personally use the reptitemp 500r thermostat, which only has one probe, as most thermostats do. However, they do have two outlets for plugs, so considering that all the cages have similar temperatures(within 2 degress) it can be used for two cages at once. Youd could also plug a surge bar into one of the outlets on the thermostat, although i wouldn't recommend that due to the risk of shorting. These thermostats are cheaper than the average and work very well, so if you need to buy multiples i would suggest this one.
