Smoking..

Rowebert Aug 07, 2007 12:40 AM

How bad is smoking around a small animal? My ball is 3'1" and abought 800 grms. Will it stunt his growth, and should I feed him weekly or bi-weekly.(Med-sized rats).

I don’t know if smoking will stunt its growth but it will make it more susceptible to RI’s. and other heath problems , I got a ball that lived in the room with a chain smoker and it actually went threw withdrawal from not getting the second hand smoke and that was diagnosed by my Vet . As fore a feed schedule I would feed every 7 days for young to juveniles and young adults , for hatchlings every 4 days and for adults 3and up every 7-10 days . That my thoughts . its more of a respitory problem. i also am a smoker (cigs only) and i do not smoke in the reptile room nor the room with any animal besides my fish tanks. outside or in a basement is the way to go lol no yellow walls to scrubwith smoke smelling furniture either.

I smoke a lot and have never had one of my BP's suffer from RI, or exhibit a smokers's cough!
As for feeding a 800 gramme BP a med sized rat - I doubt that very much unless you size your rats very differently where you are!

I got an idea! I know it's easier said than done, but why don't you guys, improve your health, save some money, not put other people OR animals at risk and smell a helluva lot better by QUITTING! My best friend lost his Mom this year from lung and brain cancer! She smoked her whole life! Don't want to see anyone on this forum go through that from either end!

hey i smoke outside be more worried about the cars exhaust than my cigs. plus i would wrather die knowing what i am dieing from than be perfect healthy and BAM dead no reason. plus i dont smoke alot any more i save loads of money form what i used to.

I hear that. My grandmother is in her death bed pretty much as we speak. She is dieing and it is not a fast painless death not even close. Yet all her kids (my aunts and uncle) are still smoking, you would think seeing their mom suffering would make them quit but no they say its to hard to quit. I smoked for 5 years 11-16yrs old (im now 23) and when i decided i didnt want to smoke anymore i quit cold turkey never touched another cig in my life. So smokein is like any other addiction and i am proof. Addiction in most cases is not the person being unable to quit but the person being not willing to quit. Im not trying to pick on anyone or tell anyone how to live after all if you cant live your life the way you want to then why are you even alive? Im just giving my opinion on the matter.

Dude...no offense.........but is this for real???????

Let's see...........if second hand smoke has been proven to be more lethal (i.e. it causes cancer and kills) to non smokers that to smokers then imagine how noxious and poisionous it must be to a ball python that has a fairly sensitive respritory system. Smoke is pretty noxious in general to most animals.......humans being animals too.......

Here is a tip.............to keep your snakes from having problems with your cigg. smoke.........

QUIT SMOKING.................

You'll probably live a little longer and you just might get to see 1 more ball morph come to be.....

Just my $.02

Is that your snake will likely outlive you. Seriously, man...If you know that the smoke could be a problem for your animal on an indirect exposure, why would you continue to put that harmful stuff into your body?

I've seen lung cancer and emphazema (sp?) up close and personal, and it is ugly...
