Custom Monitor enclosure!

MikesMonitors Aug 07, 2007 07:41 AM

I built these enclosures several months ago.
They are working out great!
There was some concern early on with the landscaping timbers.
Now that time has past with no ill-effects on my Monitors I figured I would post them here.

The photos are out of sequence(sp?), but I think you get it.

Thats a really cool idea, I think it rocks. Is the lower bin full of just filler and a little topsoil, or is it full of soil the whole way down to the bottom? I'm not a monitor guy, do those dudes (and dudettes obviously from the pic) burrow?

Thanks,
They are indeed full of substrate, Monitors are great diggers!
They are actually 6' steel horse troughs with the enclosure built on top.

hi Mike, very nice work, think your monitors must love it...

I made somethin similar some time ago, with a 4 x 2 x 2 cooler for my ackies, and they love it...

best wishes

Rick

Tank
They are very similar. size and material being the only real differences!
The purpose is the same, moist dirt quikly rotts wood and laminated woods. A steel horse trough or plastic bin like your cooler with last for decades!

Mike,
Are those treated landscape timbers you used to build this?

Is that you!?
Yes they are treated. No ill-effects, as a matter of fact when I first bought them they had mold, algae, shrooms and all kinds of inverts on them! These are supposed to be treated to kill such things! LOL, The "new" treatment doesn't work to good!

Fantastic nice to see big lizards with room. I saw a Tegu reddish color last year in Miami.

Crossing a dirt road near Glades park had something in its mouth didnt see what it was
