Hognose bites?

platinumtlc Aug 07, 2007 10:21 AM

How common are hognose bites? i saw that website with the pictures of the guy being bit and the aftereffects, and it looks PRETTY scary. I've worked with hognose snakes many times but have never gotten bitten.

That guy egged the snake on to bite then let it chew on him. The rear fangs are so far back you would have to stick your finger down the snakes throat to get Invenomated(sp?).

Thinking that a Hognose snake, rearfangs are located waaay back in the mouth, and that you would have to get youre finger way down its mouth to get contact, is in my opinion a little naive.

The teeth are large and located slightly behind the eyes, but actually, alot closer to the front of the mouth then alot of other rearfanged snakes.

Nancy: Thinking that youre animal never will bite is the first mistake, and letting youre guard down, is the second. NEVER underestimate youre animal, no matter how well you think you know them.

Just my opinion.

Get pics Mark. It is like I tell the kids at my ed. talks. Any animal with a mouth "can" bite. Some are just more inclined to bite than others.

I have an Eastern. She would never, ever, ever bite. But I _did_ cut my finger on her tooth when I was assist feeding her, and all it did was take a little bit longer than normal to stop bleeding.

The guy in those pictures wanted to see what the worst case scenario was. I'd say he was successful! I think it's useful information, or interesting at least.
