I actually just posted that pic to stay on topic but I have a totally off topic question for all you.

What internet security systen do you use/reccomend? I am deciding between Norton anti-virus or AVG. My computer repair guy tells me AVG is far better.

we use norton, but that does not mean it is the best. i find it to be intrusive, and sometimes like an anvil on the keyboard...
do you have the opportunity to test the other system before you make a choice?

OFF TOPIC- do you have any other pics of the jelly male? he looks pretty good size- how big?

It all depends on what you are wanting this program to do, how much you want to spend and your computer knowledge. If you are not computer literate then I would recommend Norton 360, good price runs great on older and newer systems. Personally I use ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7. At work I have tested and used just about all the top security programs from MacAfee to AVG. I also like NIS 07 do NOT get NIS 06 as it was junk, NIS 07 runs great again on older and newer computers. Check out this article in full and make your decision.

Hey thanks for the tips and the link. I checked it out and am almost sold on NIS 360. But first i would like to ask you about AVG. You emntioned that you have tested AVG and wanted your opinion compared to Norton 360.

I like AVG as a simple and FREE AntiVirus program, however as a PAID for security suite its firewall is lacking. I ran AVG on an infected system with around 100 viruses and it didn’t do as good as the other AV(Bitdefender)software I had running (both free). Since you are saying you are not very computer literate then the hands down best choice for you will be Norton 360, when I had it running I thought it wasn’t doing its job because it never asked me anything, very easy to use and very effective. I have had lots of problems in the past with Norton products but I still have to test them and I must say they did a great job with Norton 360 and NIS 2007. What I run at home and at work is not user friendly and its mostly free but I would never recommend it to a novice, with Norton 360 you have all in one, AV, firewall, spyware and much more and its simple to use! Go Norton 360 and I doubt you will be disappointed. FYI it only runs on Microsoft Windows XP and Vista…

Use AVG free edition - never had a problem for years
Get spybot search and destroy & adaware se - free at download.com
also turn on the windows firewall OR zone alarm firewall is free as well

Now how about a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!!!!

Bluerosy Aug 07, 2007 05:17 PM

I have been using AVG (FREE) and spybot. Thats why i keep getting viruses and malware. The AVG free only works well for 30 days.

I'm not sure what my dad currently uses - but he gave Norton a go and found that it was very poorly designed.

On multi user systems with several user accounts, it just really completely bogged the system. He had a gig of ram which should have been sufficient for XP but he had to double it because of Norton - and then he ran into other issues with it - so he ditched Norton for something else that is a lot less resource hungry.

Myself - I run Linux so I do not have those worries.

is to use an internet browser other than Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox and Opera are excellent browsers and are not as vulnerable as Internet Explorer. Both are available for free.

I still don't know what a browser is. I switched to Mozilla Firefox a while back because people told me what you are reccomending. I didn't like it so i switched back. To hard trying to transfer things over from Internet Explorer. And then i thought WHY amd I doing this? If I can go back and forth between the two how am I protecting my computer. I guess i don't undertsad the basics of computer operations. Thats why I am consdering Norton 360. It says that you have to do less..and thats for me. Push a button and thats all i want to do.

What I don't undertsnad is why someone has not sold such a package for internet security. All in one firewall, Mozilla Firefox, spyware, malware, aniti virus (jeez i probably left a few things out) and have it download onto a computer for people who don't want the hassle of reading and doing research just to get protection.

A browser is just that something that allows you to browse the internet, you need it to navigate around the internet. Almost all browsers are free or included with the OS (operating system), Firefox is normally the more secure of the two main browsers out for any Windows based machine. IE or internet explorer is more widely used and as a result people find more security holes and expose them because of this IE isn’t always as secure as third party browsers such a firefox but don’t let anyone tell you otherwise firefox still has security issue just like IE does(sometimes they are the same, sometimes they are different). Personally I keep up with flaws that people discover on several browsers and I prefer firefox. IE 7 is still a good browser especially when you have a good security suite running like Norton 360. Keep your computer up to date using Windows update, keep your security programs up to date and you shouldn’t have any issues.

Firefox also has some nice extensions.

I use the "NoScript" extension, for example.
It does not allow websites except for those I specifically whitelist to execute any kind of script in my browser.

It has on occasion caused issue with poorly designed commerce sites that hand you off to a different site to complete the transaction. I complain bitterly to the webmaster in those few instances explaining the issue, and further suggest that they do not rely upon javascript to complete the transaction.

Unfortunately - I really don't know anything about Windows.
I went from Mac OS 8 to Unix based systems back in '98 and on windows, I'm usually pretty lost as I've never really used it.

I have used Norton and now I use AVG. I think AVG is far greater then Norton. However I say use both. I have gotten viruses that have gotten past Norton and AVG nailed, and vice versa. Double the anti viral program, double the protection!

Bluerosy Aug 08, 2007 11:31 AM

dosen't having both programs cause conflicts?

AVG and Norton? I always heard that you have to remove one to have another to work properly.
