I am about 15 years out of college, and now have the space and money for snakes.

Just use this as motivation to do well in school and have a successful career. I was not going to go to college, but motocross crash caused me to re-think. I went to college to party, but ended up working hard to prove to people that I would not flunk out.

I do not feel that a college degree is really needed, but it does open doors - as so many positions and companies require degrees. What really matters is the effort and work one puts into their career.

yeah, i was glad she came back before she died though. it was really weird, because i could swear that she loved flowers. i would put flowers in her cage and she would curl up in them and smell them for hours, and sometimes i would sneak her down to the park and let her smell those for hours too, she would just sit there and smell them. it was so cute, i loved her so much that i had actually planned on having a pig farm (for her when she gets full-grown)when i grew up, and wanted to buy a house somewhere warm so that i could just fence in my yard real well and she could have a properly sized "cage". have any of you ever had a snake that liked flowers? I have never heard of it before.

I'd have to say my collection is getting pretty darn full. And while I like to check out all the other species, I really like the BRB's and BCI's so, my wish list is more towards what I want to produce, and not so much towards acquisition.....

BRB
OMG, want albino BRB's
want a clown phase pair or two
Produce...
striped hypo's!!!
hypo's and outcrossed hets
Anery's and outcrossed hets
Ghosts...
Duh, color, more color, pattern and more pattern. I already have a dayglow orange eclipse (Amber), imagine the other patterns (bullseye and blush) in high color!!!!

BCI
Aztec, love em, want one
produce (in no specific order)...
coral sunglow motley
coral albino motley
super motley
salmon motley
anery motley
ghost motley
coral sunglow
jungle and super jungle
snow

Not yet. She'll be of age nearing the end of this coming season, but she'll need another year to attain a good size. When we bought her she was small for her age, and she came with another snake (thrown in for free) who was a bit on the long and skinny side, so I'm guessing they weren't on the best feeding schedule. Waiting a year is all good with me because I have nothing to breed her with. Maybe someone will donate a motley to me.. but i'm doubting it :P

....I am very surprised that none of you have Eastern Indigos on your list. IMO this snake is the true Cadillac of all snakes. If I could get the permits to keep them half of my Rainbow Boa collection would be sold to make room for them. I remember the ones I kept 40 years ago far more fondly than any snake I have kept since.
....For all of you who have Bci morphs on your list I challenge you to post a photo of a big one that is pretty. Many of them look great when they are little but all of them when full grown are less pretty than normal Bci and trail FAR behind the beauty of a big Surinam.

Jeff,

I completely forgot about Indigos. While a fully grown adult might require too much space for me right now, a younger one might fit the bill. I saw a couple at a reptile show a few years ago, and they were absolutely stunning. I've also read they have more "personality" than most other species.
If you don't mind expanding on why you liked them so much, I'd
love to hear it!

Not even sure if I can get a permit/license for one here in NC, though.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,
....You mentioned personality and that is exactly what it is. They just seem to like being handled. Even some of them that I caught were totally tame the first time I picked them up. They do require big cages and they can be messy. You need a federal license for them anywhere in the country. The license is not hard to get. You also need a state permit in many of the states in the southestern US. The state permits are practically impossible in Florida and Georgia, especially for someone who is a reptile breeder. I think there is no state permit required in NC.

Jeff,

Thanks, I've already started investigating this. It looks like a federal permit is only necessary if the snake is shipped across state lines, and the fee is $100 per snake. (If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post the pertinent links.)

I'd love to get an Indigo or two. Most importantly, I could try do to a small part in preserving the species. That they are docile, smart and awesome looking is huge bonus.
Given working with Indigos would be right up my alley in all other ways, I could probably address the larger size and enclosure issue. I just need to utilize my "snake space" (5" x 4" closet) better. Or if I can convince my wife I'm saving a species from extinction, maybe I can get second snake room. Of course, I'm sure some jewelry will have to be involved.

Thanks,
Ed

Your two and Daves one are not really big yet but they are also pretty nice looking. And, this is all fun among forum friends as far as I am concerned. I made this challenge because it is so obvious on the Boa Forum when people have a litter of babies. The Surinam breeders almost always show the babies with mom and the Bci morph breeders almost always show just the cute babies or maybe with a PIC of the five foot long young father of the litter. If you have a little time see if you can find a PIC of a really big morph Bci posted on the boa forum.

>>Oh, so 05's are adult close enough? Then I have another entry... I can't see her getting any worse, and if she doesnt get any better... well, i don't think i'd mind that either!

That one could be a winner. It does look like it is a big one.

is a better challenge, most older bci morphs looks crappy, I have seen some new albino super motley's....they look like they may stay pure white (super motley pure black, I think, never seen an "old" one either.....) time will tell, Suriname and other "true" red tails are hard to beat...
