willzy Aug 08, 2007 08:07 AM

Hi!

the photos aren't ideal but can anyone have a guess at the sex of my corn snake Louis please? Maybe it's Louise!

i heard that females are shorter and more indented - this one looks long but does indent slightly so I've never been sure

thanks loads,

Willzy

Looks like a male to me.

Males tails run thicker for the first couple of inches just past the vent. Females tail-bases taper quickly right past that point.

looks like a girl to me. IT might just be ready for a big poop.

Rule of Thumb: Female tails taper rapidly. The tail is half as thick as at the tail base at a point leaa than halfway to the tail tip. Male tails taper less rapidly. The tail is half as thick as at the tail base more than halfway to the tail tip.

Definitely a girl!

Like Paul said, "Female tails taper rapidly... ...Male tails taper less rapidly."

The taper described above is from the vent to the tail end. A female's reproductive organs are housed in the area just before the vent. A male's reproductive organs are housed after the vent, making the area immeditately before/after the vent the same thickness; a smoother, more gradual, taper.

Have a good one!
