Can a Corn Snake Escape from this?

hey guys, i was asking the guy at the reptile place and he said that i should buy the really small "mesh" cover...but this cover seems like it is good enouhg, it "Snaps" onto the tank and even i myself have trouble just opening it up....the grills have a spacing of about 0.2 cm between each other...i tried using my fingers to squeeze thru and even a pencil and it wont go thru.....so do u think a baby snake will be able to escape thru that? if they can, could u tell me what i could add on, becoz i dont wana spend $27 on a new cover =(

Corns can escape through anything...if they really put their minds to it! I would highly suggest only using screens designed for snakes otherwise you could be taking an unnecessary risk. Never cut corners with costs b/c it will only cost you more in the long run. If you are not sure about whether or not your corn can get out thru it, then get a large rubbermaid or something and place your tank setup in that...this way if it gets out, you still have it contained...otherwise, you might be posting questions on here about how to find a lost corn..LOL....
Good Luck and if ya can, post some pics of your corn! I'd love to see it.

My son has a cover exactly like that for one of his snake's cages. If the spacing is 0.2 cm, as you state, then I'd say it is unlikely that anything but a hatchling could escape from it. Because the grid isn't square, you need to be aware of the possibility of a snakie being able to slide through according to the thickness of its head rather than the width of its head. Once it has got its head through, then its body will flatten out laterally to follow the head.

I'd be disinclined to use it for any corn snake under at least five or six months old, or under at least 18 inches long. I've seen a two-yr-old corn, over 33 inches long, go through the bars of a mouse cage when those bars were spaced at 0.8 cm apart. She wasn't a small snake, at that time her thickest diameter was over twice the bar-spacing width.
