Questions about my growing water...

jojay327 Aug 08, 2007 02:04 PM

Question for those with big waters, at the four to five foot range are you still using water tubs for your monitor to soak, I have read that it is not necessary as long as the humidity is ok, I would love to always provide a tub for soaking and am looking in to a way to have a tub that drains and fills it self three times a day(the owner of pro products has done this for his water)anyone done something like this, also at what size would you move a water to an 8' setup, mine is 24" and is in a 4' cage so I could easily monitor his first few months, he is doing great, basking, digging, eating and eating and eating. Think he is ready, I have an empty 8'x3'x3'. Thanks for all the help, this forum has guided me along the way. Jay

Hey Jay,
I would like to learn more about the self filling tub. Could you elaborate on it.

The 8x3x3 wont hold him for very long. Adult waters are HUGE! Over 6' and hefty. Have you ever seen an adult in person? After I did, I realized I would not be able to provide for such a tremendous animal with my 4x4x8 enclosure. I was fortunate to find someone to take it who had the room for it.
I made the typical beginner mistake, like a lot of people do. I ended up getting a blackthroat, and even still, she is outgrowing the 8x4x4.Next month she will be moved to a 10x10x6h outdoor enclosure. Monitors need oodles of room. The bare minimum will not suffice, and is torture.

yes very big, but mine is only two foot at the moment, i live in sunny SC and have about 12 acres of farm land so a building will soon come into play, I know about the big boys as Burms, annies and caiman are part of our family as well as a slew of other critters, this is my first big monitor and was just curious because he was still young if the smaller space made him feel a little more secure at that age(most likely his first home as he was bought at a show) I am well aware what the future holds and it will be very bright for him, My wife and I always go the extra mile for our babies, it's just something we love. Thanks for the reply though. Jason
