superworm breeding

grimdog Aug 19, 2003 08:37 PM

ok so i have gotten 8 beatles from my superworms. i have them set up on egg layer mash with water available in the form of gel. anyone have any idea how many worms could come from 8 beatles? this is my first attempt. How long until i see little worms? Will I be able to see the eggs? I have more supers set up to pupate. I will commit more room to them once I get it going and produce some. then i will try to produce a few dozen beatles a week.

Its going to be about a month or so before you start seeing little worms... They're quite small at first.. and seeing them is difficult. I've got a successful colony going now... One drawer of supers almost up to feeder size.. and the adults all moved into another drawer...where I've got more worms growing now. With Supers.. its a waiting and patience game now. 8 beetles..I can't really say how many you might get... because you can't be sure of the ratio of males to females..from what I've read I believe they're similar to Mealworms in being able to lay between 200 and 500 eggs in each batch. Not all of those will survive to hatch.. not all those hatched will live through the growth period.
