Helix and Temps questions?

MannyRottie Aug 08, 2007 08:44 PM

How come my vision rack has almost every tub at perfect temps. But two of the tubs (that are side by side next to the perfect temps) do not have perfect temps. I have a temp gun and the perfect temps are 89-93 on the hot spot and 77-82 on the cool side. But on the other tubs it is 85-87 cool side and 97-102 on the hot side. This is with the same tubs, same substrate (aspen), same heat cable, same thermostat. The tubs in question on the second and third from the bottom. The perfect ones are also second and third from the bottom. Kinda puzzling? I do see the snake stay on the high hot spot sometimes, so could it be that the temp gun is picking up some other temp? Any info will help. P.S. I did tape the probe next to the heat cable.

Any difference in substrate thickness in the tubs? That *might* account for the difference?

No difference in thickness. I thought about that, so I put a handful of aspen on the 102 hotspot, in order to place a larger barrier between the heat and the snake, but no luck. Still the same temp. Its kinda wierd. Any other ideas.

Could just be that you are measured the spots where the heat cable was lying nearer the tub. It might also be possible you have a length of your rope running higher than the rest. Sorry - could be a number of things - really hard to nail down something concrete without being there to fiddle with it. Try taking some of the heat rope off the levels that are running a little hot - or spread it out more so the heat isn't in a condensed spot.

Good luck!

(CJBianco explaining the origins of the BP market.)
"In the beginning Bob created the Ball Python market. And the market was without morph, and wild traits were upon the industry. And Bob said, Let there be morph, and there was morph. And Bob saw the morph, that it was good; and Bob divided the morph from the wild trait. And Bob called the morph Albino, and the wild trait Normal. And the Albino and the Heterozygous Albino were the first investment.

If you haven't figured it out yet maybe you should just buy some new heat rope and see what happens. I have never dealt with heat rope so I know nothing about it but maybe you just have a weird piece of it and new rope might work better. Just my thoughts though.
