Bumps- IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

lovebronx Aug 19, 2003 08:54 PM

Hi Everyone-
I feel like there's just one problem after another lately with my BP, Bronx. The other day when we were handling him, we noticed 3 bumps on his back....about 1/3 the way down his body from his head. They are hard, and seem to be colorless, and when looked at in proper light, it looks as though they have a pinkish tint to them, and the skin surrounding them. I touched them, and he didn't flinch. Also, his behavior is normal. Any idea what this could be?

Two of my Farmed new babies I bought had bumps when I bought them. Went away after first shed. I am figuring that they just had bad condition when they were at the vendors. Maybe it was too dry at the vendor's care, is what i figured.

I dont' know if this has any similarity to your situation.

I know that after I gave them good temp and humidity and a good soak or two, the bumps went away after each of their sheds.

p.s. These were really bad bumps, too. They had clear liquid in them. I could squeeze clear liquid out of them. Thick and clear. It was like popping pimples. I was at a loss as to what to do. I decided to just give good husbandry and see what would happen. No one had a clue what it was. I had no clue. However, warm water soaks solves everything! Solved the dry skin (one took 2 weeks to shed but shedded right away after an eight hour warm soak), and constipation.

To use warm soak: put a tub of water that is shallow and put that tub on your heating pad. soak for eight hours. It cured my snake's shed problem (had gone two weeks without being able to complete shed), and her constipation problem. She shed and crapped right in the water. Warm water is the cure for 40 % of all problems you will see in BP's!

cheers.

If possible, make sure to clean the water out if they defecate, as 'dirty' water is known to be one cause that can lead to mouth rot...

I agree. if Possible, don't do what I did which was to leave the bp in the water tub over the heating pad and then go to work.

I had planned to come home @ lunch to check, but work got busy and I never made it home at lunch time.

So the BP was in the tub for eight hours. a few of those hours was in fecal matter water. I felt bad for it and cleaned it up as soon as I got home.. I don't know when he crapped during that eight hours.

So, if you are going to soak for eight hours, make sure you checkin in very often.

Ohterwise, water is a great way to treat about 40% of all things wrong with the bp. Make sure the water is luke warm.

cheers.

Thanks everyone- that's really a lot of great advice. It's weird, he's had several sheds since we've had him, and the bumps are new. His behavior is completely normal though, although he often has constipation problems. We'll try the soak on Friday- I have never soaked him, so I wonder if he'll actually stay in there. Do you really think that will make the bumps go away? Again, they're very hard and discolored, along his spine, about 1/3 of the way down his body from his head.

Howdy:

Sounds like the bumps you have are different than the ones on my BP's. The ones on my bp's were soft and popped with clear thick liquid. They were on the side and on the back and near the head of the snakes. They were not on the bellies. They were not hard.

I can't say whether soaking will help with these bumps. All I can say is that soaking solves many things. It is a nice and easy and free and pretty safe thing to do. I like warm water because it cures more problems than just cold water.

I use a tub and over the tub (rubbermaid bin). The water is shallow and I put it over the heating pad.

cheers.

good luck to you. make sure you update us.
