16 South Georgia (Orange) Kings hatch!

BlueKing Aug 09, 2007 10:30 AM

Here they are: 16 hatchlings. (Sorry for the bad pic. Been extremely busy lately.) Some are thin - banded, and some are thick banded. And some are REALLY thick banded, with a couple displaying a "blotched" appearance. One is also a semi-striped/patternless/mosaic or whatever you want to call him, lol! These are all pre-shed pics. Will post some more, better pics, later, after they shed.
For those that havn't seen these before: YES, these are all Eastern Kingsnakes, and will retain most of these colors all the way into adulthood, like their parents have! (Unlike brooksis they do not lighten up much, or develop additional speckling, nor do they have the characteristic orange coloring on the snout - all of their snouts display the typical eastern kingsnake look: Black, with only few yellow marks. There are no goinis bred into this mix, for the dark areas/saddles between the bands, never develop speckling - they stay dark for their entire lives )
The parents of these, are very beautiful, large, orange/peach banded TRUE Eastern Kingsnakes that were selectively bred to retain these colors (for at least three generations), with no captive goini or Brooksi Influence. The founder stock is from extreme South Georgia originally, which may explain the wide bands and orange coloring (locality is NEAR but not IN goini or floridana range). These are the first adults I've had that actually retained most of their orange into adulthood! I will be bringing at least one of the parents to Daytona to let folks see the nice, clean, orange & peach bands on these 5 foot Kingsnakes!
SEE YA IN DAYTONA!
BTW: The Golden corns have just hatched!!! (check in the corn forum)
Thanks for lookin' n' readin' PEACE,

Zee

congats Zee,my S. Gas. just hatched also i got 7 babies from 6 eggs i had a bug infestation of the eggs mid-term ,those Dam carion flies and the ends of some eggs were imperfect at laying so they invaded didnt hurt good shelled eggs also one of the twins has a perfect zipper pattern.
i dont say the S Gas. have Goini in em ,but the Goini probably a Chain King sub species, and i havnt seen Fla.King influence in the Goini but i have seen Chain Goini! but that is in the trade and the chance of those being true Chain Goini is unproven.Who Knows ? its been brought up here for years and no conclusion has been reached.Any how i like the Flaming Easterns from S Ga

Thanks
Very true ... years of arguing about the heritage of those animals. One thing IS TRUE: They are beautiful and are my favorites. You should see the adults! They are super clean and AWESOME looking!!! I will have to post a pic of them soon (they're currently in shed),

BlueKing Aug 10, 2007 10:05 AM

Yes, they have been known to go after full sized human beings with NO FEAR!
To them, I think we look like very large, tasty, mice/rats, when we step up to their cages lol!!! But I'm NOT complaining; At least they will ALWAYS eat for ya!!!
Lets see a pic of your big male! I will post some of mine as soon as he sheds.

I sent you an e-mail. I bet your glad to be back in the U.S.A.
I'm glad to see your having a good herping, and breeding season!

BlueKing Aug 10, 2007 09:43 AM

Thanks.
Thanks to my wife - I DID have a good breeding season, lol! My wife & son are the ones who actually bred that pair that produced those babies. I bred the rest of my adults, but that pair was in shed when I cam home in the early spring, so they would not breed for me until AFTER I went back overseas.

Those are by far my favorite easterns.
I'm not really terribly fond of the "normal" chain.
I do like some of the chain kings I've seen - but nothing I've seen compares to these.

Congrats Zee,

It looks like you have at least one superwide "Frank the Tank" clone - the granddaddy of your babies and the original wide banded animal in my colony - in your clutch . Very nic! I'm bringing a few interesting holdbacks to Daytona, as my '07s are still cooking. It'll be nice to meet you guys in person. I see your table is up on the upper deck too. Congrats again buddy.

Will

BlueKing Aug 10, 2007 09:59 AM

Thanks
Really looking forward to seeing/meeting you. Yes I DO have ONE "Tank" in the clutch. Unfortunately my 17th baby didn't make it out of its' egg - because that one had the highest amount of orange with very wide bands on it...
See you in about a week!!!

Horridus Aug 10, 2007 10:39 AM

Great looking animals. I recently was given a photo of one of the exceptional kings I caught many years ago from that same area. I wasn't going to post it because I didn't want to beat the dead horse about who believes they are intergrades and who doesn't. Regardless of what was done with the founder stock of Kevin's animals, that area has always had the potential to produce animals like the ones you have hatched out here. They aren't goini/meansi/mosaic/etc. they are getula, and getula is more variable in some parts of thier range than in others. If you'd like to see it, shoot me an email and I'll send it to you. I'll have the photo with me in Daytona also.

BlueKing Aug 11, 2007 03:10 AM

YES, I hope you'll stop by next week and say hi! I would like to meet you in person (and see the pic). I will be at a table near the entrance (top floor - rookie section).
AND YES I AGREE - Getulas can be quite variable (especially S.GA - N.FL).
