why did my turtles start hating each other

proudresmomof4 Aug 19, 2003 09:12 PM

For the first year of owning my 4 res they never ever fought. They swam together, basked together, layed onto of each other etc. Then one of my girls started biting my boy's neck. It got really bad so last week we found a good home for hre. That left me with 2 girls and a boy. Now my most shy girl decided to pick up where the other left off and started biting him. Now the wound is pretty severe. I have two questions, what is the best way to heal his wound as quickly and correctly? and why are the girls picking on the boy? Are they enticed my the wound? do they just hate him? He is terrified of them and in much pain its very sad, all he wants to do is sleep. Any help in this matter would be appreciated

Well I'm pretty sure any males and females together there might be problems. Same with any RES actually but just less servere.

I have 2 males and first the little one picked on the big one by hanging on his tale or feet but then my big one started biting him and that went on for a while, and now their peaceful almost everyday... sometimes the little one will open its mouth to attack but my big one is smart and will guard itself - then it just go away.

Perhaps seperate them for good or give away the male RES since it's either females attacking it or the males attacaking the females. Sometimes when a RES is injured the other turtles will keep on attacking it just to keep him in check or something like that. Yes it's strange behavior but I suppose they act on their territorial instincts and stuff. As for the neck wound, I hear people use neosporin on it and let it dry.. I personally have never dealth with that serious of an injury
