HELP! My crickets.......

alexisgeckoluver May 21, 2003 11:38 PM

HELP!I think either my crickets are cannibalistic or they escaped out of their cage. I swear there were at least 10 of them in their little 'cage' before I left to go somewhere and now there's only three! And the three that are left are really fat! somebody help! Which is more likely? Cannibal crickets? or Cricket escapees? (BTW the cage was closed tightly before I left)

it could be either, except, if the body is completely gone, they probably excaped.

they have a tendency to chew through cardboard, or wood if they try hard enough. I know they chew through the cheap plastic bags that theyre sold in at petco. I dont think they would start eating each other till one of them died. Plus I dont think a cricket could manage to eat another crickets head, a crickets head is too hard.

Yes, they do eat each other. If they are well fed this should not be a problem. Make sure they have a piece of carrot/potato/apple in their cage at all times. Also they should have a dish of chicken feed, or cricket feed. Warmth is also a key factor in keeping crix happy healthy and nutritious. I use a regular low watt light bulb to warm my crix. You may also want to try a larger container; you can use plastic masking tape to keep them for climbing all the way up the sides. Hope this helps, and good luck.
