Getting anaconda off chicks

Burmlove Aug 10, 2007 08:33 PM

I have a male green conda that is about 12-18 months old. I got him on July 25, and was told he was eating small rats. I tried f/t, live and p/k rats. I ended up trying chicks, because he seemed hungry. Well, that was probably a mistake. He ate two p/k chicks without a problem. However, from what I'm reading, once you give them birds, it's hard to get them weaned off of them. I don't know if he has ever eaten rats. The place I got him from was unpleasant to do business with. I was told he is CBB, but I question that as well. Can anyone tell me how to convert this guy to rats? I tried scenting the rats, putting chicken feathers on them and dunking the rat in chicken broth. NOTHING WORKS!! Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated-Amy

I had the same problem, was told he ate rats, tried to feed and he looked at it as if it wasn't even food. I just thawed out a couple of mice and a chick and rubbed that chick all over the mouse(really hard) then i fed the chick to him followed by the mouse(from tongs) took a minute but he went for it. ever since that day he hasn't refused anything, now eating medium rats. You will get it, just be patient. Jason
