Is it possible for a 500 gram male to start breeding, or should it be bigger!?

I have read breeders using males as small as 350 grams give or take. Its rare but it has happened. So i would say it is possible but i would not try to get him to go through several females. Its possible to breed to death. Hope this helps out some im a newbie but i have read a lot on the subject.
