shedding question

yeahyeah Aug 11, 2007 09:50 AM

My snake shed for the first time since I had it (it's a little over a month old) in pieces but there was still skin left over the eye caps and on the head. A few days later it started to shed again. It was still in pieces and there was still skin left in the same place. What should I do? I don't want to soak his head for obvious reasons.

i take a squirt bottle and mist where the ksin is still left on his body. or take and mist the cage to get the humidity up

I would soak it also, alot of them will go under the water themselves. You need to up the humidity in the enclosure if it is a tank I would cover 90% of the top.Cypress helps alot also add that to the bedding. If the eye caps do not come off this time the next shed really watch the humidity and they should come off. IF not it will need a vet appointment to remove them.

I would first be concerned as to why it is shedding within a couple of days of a shed - generally this only happens if there is something wrong with the snake (ie parasites or injuries, etc.) - I can't recall an instance where a snake would shed to alleviate a stuck shed - first double check the snake for issues - if all appears ok then either soak the snake in luke warm water or wet a towel and let the snake sit in the towel for a few minutes the stuck shed should come right off.

Good luck!

(CJBianco explaining the origins of the BP market.)
"In the beginning Bob created the Ball Python market. And the market was without morph, and wild traits were upon the industry. And Bob said, Let there be morph, and there was morph. And Bob saw the morph, that it was good; and Bob divided the morph from the wild trait. And Bob called the morph Albino, and the wild trait Normal. And the Albino and the Heterozygous Albino were the first investment.

If unsuccesful in your attempts at soaking, take a small peice of scotch tape and wrap it (sticky side out) around your finger. Gently hold the snake and VERY gently roll your finger over the eyecap. should work and is virtually harmless to the snake.
