The Georgia giants have hatched!!!

BlueKing Aug 11, 2007 01:52 PM

After two years of trying: Here are a couple of pics of babies from the breeding of two Huge Eastern Kingsnakes. The father is over six feet long, and the mother is just a little over five feet long. This is by far the biggest breeding pair of kingsnakes I've ever had. After breeding last year, the mother got fat, but never laid her eggs (it was her first time)...??? This year she double clutched!!! Go figure, lol! Unfortunately, only six out of 12 babies made it (first clutch), and I'm currently incubating two more fertile eggs that she laid out of second clutch of eight just a couple of weeks ago.
The top pic is the only baby with so much orange on it ( a female), the bottom pic is a more typical look of the rest of these babies (a male). Even though the eggs were over three inches long, there were no twins and the babies were only 13"-14" long.

Hey Zee! Congrats!!! I would have said those are sweater boxes the hatchlings are in. HaHa!! Awesome looking kings anyway. From the looks of them, they aren't dwarfs. Derek

Thanks..
Yes, for once that reddish one IS a female (Usually in my Eastern King experience the males are almost always the prettier ones).

Wouldn't it be cool to start a genetic "GIANT LINE"!! That is an awesome looking little female. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet you one day on some of Pete's herp trips.

Thanks.
Peter is coming this way next month for an early fall herp excursion.
