I never knew that they started growing fur so quickly in comparision to regular rats. They're cute.

havic Aug 13, 2007 09:57 PM

GrotesqueBurgess They are pretty neat they have fur from day one. Mom is a little protective but once I have her out she is some what ok.

ballfreak thank you on the pic's. I am helping a friend out. And they are good for my none eaters. I also enjoy breeding the mice rats and now this new project.

the african rats get bigger than regular is that correct. who can i get them through

havic Aug 19, 2007 04:22 AM

No ASFR do not get bigger then your normal rat.

Other Names= Multimammate Mouse, Common African Rat, Soft-furred or African Soft-furred Rat.

It all depends on where you live. Over here on the west coast not too many have them. So your lucky if you can find them. Now in south east they are more and more common now. Check when you next local reptile expo you might find some there.

African Pouched rats get bigger than normal rats... much bigger, but they are illegal in the US and their pet value would make feeding them off as snake food really stupid (unless you wanna throw away a couple hundred dollars).
African Soft Fur rats stay much smaller than regular rats.
The simular names is probably what confused you.

so whats the deal making the african rats so popular, seems like i seen a thread saying they have more babies. Im trying to figure this out

havic Aug 21, 2007 11:59 AM

They are supposed to be candy to a ball python that has gone off feed. I have only tried this on one of my balls, she has not feed in 6 months. She took 2 in a row That's 2 in 2 weeks. So I cannot say for sure on that but I am hoping that is the case.
