The old, clothing in the cage trick!

Herplover95 Aug 11, 2007 09:07 PM

Well I experienced my first corn bite tonight! Haha! That is enough to make me say," You know what, Im tired of your attitude Mr. Okee, let's try this!". So I took of my sock off and set it in his cage! Ha! Does anybody know if this realy works? I figured it was worth a try, but I doubt it'll work.Thank you!

As I turned around I smelled a
horrible "dirty body" smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was "smiling". His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance. He said, "Good day" as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, "Coffee is all Miss" because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm).

Well, if your feet are anything like mine throwing a sock in there is likely to kill it! Especially with the recent weather. I have heard this before. In theory it will work but there are 2 set backs. Your socks don't really smell like "you" Or at least I hope I don't smell like my socks..... And also, if the corn is scared of you for reasons other then you smell "new" then it won't work. Try making a fist and sticking it in front of his face before you grab him. I do this with nippy snakes and 90% of the time they get the message that I don't want to hurt them. This doesn't seem to work on california kings and baby spotted pythons though I think they are just nasty to the bone most of the time though!

No my feet dont stink! And that is exactly what I did when I got bit! Haha! He usually gets the message too, but tonight he didnt want to think. My sock didnt stink and i dont wear deoderant on my feet like some people do so I dont think it would hurt him. And I really dont want to stick underwear in there because that's just plain old discusting!Thank you for the quick response!

Probably won't hurt anything(or work!),but I'd try a shirt, just because it will probably smell more like your arm or hand.Sock? underwear? I hope your not going to try and pick him up with your feet or your.......... LOL!!!!!!!!!

hey!!
My cali kings are nippy as babies, but are really sweet adults. i think that is just the way they are. I dont know about the other one, as I have never owned one.
I admit, kings have much more of an attitue than corns, though. lol

"I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once"

I would not by any means say that this works as a rule but since it costs nothing to try it is always worth a shot with a nippy snake.

Normally what is used for this is a shirt you have worn that day as it is most likely to have the parts of your scent which the snake will smell during handling.

I have used it and had it make a significant difference with many, but by no means all, of the numerous wild caught snakes I brought home growing up in the foothills.

Hopefully it works but if not it's a nothing lost attempt.

Also if it doesn't make a difference after one or at most two nights then quite trying as I've never seen it make any difference if the snake was still aggressive after two nights with it in there.

Sean.

I have two corns that literally jump out of their bins, when I open them, with mouths wide open. It's a great surprise for friends. Oviously I havn't handled these two enough. Theirs is a feeding response. They are expecting me to drop a mouse in the bin. Usually I present my open palm right to their nose and they then lose all desire to strike and calm down. I do this with defensive strikers as well.

HerpLover95 Aug 13, 2007 02:35 PM

It's a defensive strike. Which I dont understand why because he was perfectly fine 3 months ago. But I did get a little busy for a month or two and stopped handling him a lot. My amel didnt end up like that! It's just hard to do anything around his cage with him striking and biting you hand all the time. I should have picked the sweet innocent candycane next to him! Haha! Nah, I wouldnt trade him for anything.

If they are high, that could be why he is so snappy. It is easy for the temps to go high in the summertime. Get a good thermometer and place it directly on the bottom of your cage over the hot spot. Is it possible that he is just hungry? Sometimes that can do it, also. Just two ideas that you have already probably tried.
