Thick black parallel lines running down the sides of the belly - usually at least the bottom third of the snake if not more.

Clear white belly at least three white scales wide (between the solid black lines)only exception would be if your snake also has an orange ringer which is also sometimes found on hets and would start in the belly area.

This might be a het pied marker:

This would not:

JET Pythons

(CJBianco explaining the origins of the BP market.)
"In the beginning Bob created the Ball Python market. And the market was without morph, and wild traits were upon the industry. And Bob said, Let there be morph, and there was morph. And Bob saw the morph, that it was good; and Bob divided the morph from the wild trait. And Bob called the morph Albino, and the wild trait Normal. And the Albino and the Heterozygous Albino were the first investment.

Its not always 100%, sometimes the Hets wont have the markers, but having them makes you feel a little more comfortable.

Another thing to look for is a breeder you can trust!!! As stated above markers are not 100%.

Something like this. This is a 66% pos het female that is not going anywhere!!! She came from a clutch produced by a sire and dam that were both 50% pos hets with the marker, and the pied below was her sibling that proved the sire and dam did turn out to be hets. It is always a great feeling to prove pos hets out!!!

Caution-I wouldn't go sorting through groups of generic baby balls and holding back babies with those "pied markers" expecting them to be het pieds. Chances are they are not. That marking seems to be rather common in imported baby balls. And I've seen many proven het pieds that showed no sign of the "marker".

I have three het pied females almost ready to go (will mate them to my 1100 gram male pied)-only one shows the marker, but the breeder of the other two showed pics of the actual mating of a pied to a normal that produced them....

ALL of my 100% hets this year had markers including 2 female pastels. I held back a 66% female last year that will be bred in the 08-09 season to prove her genetics as well. I think when you are considering pos. het pieds, it's a good thing to look for. It seems to be more common in some collections than others.
