Sexing baby Nelsoni's

hansenherps Aug 12, 2007 11:41 AM

I just had thirteen nelsoni's hatch a few weeks ago. I was wanting to sex them, with the sexing probes I have, but I am not sure how to do it without hurting them. Can someone tell me how to sex them without damaging them? I know that females are shallow and males are deep correct?

That is correct that the males probe much deeper than the females but I would have someone who has probed a lot show you how to do it the first time. I think it's best to have someone experienced do it for you and explain what they are doing as you watch. Randy W.

Congrats on the hatchlings!

Randy is right, its really best to have someone show you how to do it if you have not done it before.

Also, you can have that person teach you how to "pop" them as well. Many of us pop first and if they don't pop male, we probe to make sure its a female. I always double check like this so people don't end up with 2 males!

Kathy love has some videos on her website (link below) that show you how its done, but I still think you should have someone show you in person.

Thanks for the information! Now I just got to keep these little guys from biting me and squirming away!
