Yesterday, I witnessed a strange event while I was observing my leucy black ratsnake. While he was cruising the cage, I noticed an odd "muscle twitch" or spasm right under the skin, about 1/6th of the way down his body. It was very small, maybe 1/4" - 1/2", and so sudden and pronounced that it looked as though something was inside of him and trying to break through the skin.
My younger brother, who was visiting at the time, was positive that a mouse's leg was trying to poke out, even though I explained over and over that I feed F/T and that's not possible anyway.
But I can't blame him for thinking that - it really did look exactly like that. In about 15 seconds the whole thing was over and it hasn't happened since - I've been watching my guy like a hawk. Throughout the whole event, my snake acted normally and didn't even seem to be affected by the "spasm", but it was still very odd.
My guy is (obviously) CB, about 4 years old, and in great health that I can see. He eats two medium rats each week without hesitation, defecates like clockwork weekly, and has perfect sheds.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. I'm scheduling my annual vet visit for him right now anyway, but I don't know if I should even bring this issue up to the vet - I probably sound crazy and I honestly don't know how to even describe it properly.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
