Tremors when walking... what does it likely mean?

cheshireycat Aug 19, 2003 11:52 PM

I posted before, but I'm going to put the update here. It's about my new gecko (got her on the 16th) and the fact that she's pretty skinny, isn't eating, and her feet shake when she walks. She's better than the first day I got her with the tremors, but other than that there is no obvious improvement.

I've been feeding her a liquid diet of Repti-Aid the past two days and today I had her lap some banana/honey mix with vitamins that I read about. I'm guessing that the most likely cause of the tremors would be a deficiency, but I want to know what you guys think because I'm truly a novice with leos.

Her tank is pretty simple, a 10-gallon (she's still young) with paper towels as substrate, two hiding spots, water, and food. She's got good ventilation with a thermal gradient from about 76*F to 88*F during the day. But I doubt it's my environment that has anything to do with it, since she's new to it.

Anyhow, I'll post another pic of her here so that you guys can tell me if she looks too skinny. My other leo looks much younger, but is nice and plump. She's got a huge head compared to the rest of her skinny body, and is somewhat weak and is very calm. I want to get a fecal done on her, but she hasn't gone to the bathroom yet, or eaten anything other than the liquid diet and I need advice. Thanks

I had one back in Jan. that lost alot of weight with the tremors u describe. vet results came back negative. i nursed it back with pedylite and ensure until she began gaining weight and eating on her own. tokk a very long month to see her tail go from pencil led to starting to plump. thats a nice looking gecko, hope u can help it.

Thanks for the hope!

I'm getting some pedialyte (should've gotten that a while ago, I keep a few herp species) among other things and can hopefully nurse her into a healthy adult

The tremors could be a sign of MBD, If this is the case she will probably never get over the shaking but it is possible that she will live a relatively normal life with proper care. She does look a little skinny to me a vet check up might be a good idea.

You know, I'd think she had MBD, but I got her from a reputable breeder (Mark and Kim Bell) at the Daytona show so I think it's something other than a calcium problem... And I'm even thinking she may have even been given too much of something, but I can't tell from the signs as I don't have enough experience.

I bought a leo from a company at an expo. I realized when i got her home that she was shaking real bad too so I waited and then when I noticed it was clearing up like the co told me I started to give her liquid calcium u can get some at AAA reptiles and some apetite stimulant everyday with some turkey baby food after a week or so I would still do this but when she was licking the turkey offf I would get a mealie and stick it in her month after about a month of this, she is doing great and all and has gained 10 grams

Well, I gave her some calcium D3 supplement with the liquid diet the first feeding, but all the other feedings I just added pure calcium carbonate into the liquid diet, just incase. I don't want to overdo anything like D3 since I don't even know if that was the problem to begin with!

So, hopefully, I can be as successful as you guys here in bringing her back to health, and I just sent my boyfriend to go fetch me some pedialyte and turkey baby food (I know certain meat babyfoods are used for lotsa herps) so that I can incorporate them into her diet for variety. Plus, she'll probably like that better than the Repti-Aid and banana I'm giving her Thanks.
