effect change in color in many animals and he thinks in BD too. Problem is it is beta-carotene based, since that is high in Vitamin A, too much can be toxic so it would need to be limited to once every two weeks allowing the dragons system to time to flush it out before more was given or in size appropiate amounts.

But, I don't think all the carrots you can give a dragon will make it this color, thats genes...... now food coloring... maybe

(not that I think this one is colored) It's a beautiful dragon!

I had a freind years ago that used to breed canaries, hed would dust the food with a color enhancer that made them really color up for bird shows ect. I do remember that it was available at a local pet/bird shop and was a commercial product in a small brown bottle. I do not recall what it was derived from.

There is always the good old gatoraide trick. There was a guy on the bp classifieds with "red" balls. He said someone had giving him. He said they were up for auction to the highest bidder. People on the BP forum ripped up the guy. He took them down said he wanted to see if it shed out. Geuss it didn't. He actually used to frequent here also. Alot of people thought someone had soaked them in red gatoraide. Guess someone did it and it turned a ball red. Guess it sticks around until they shed. Not in any way saying this dragon isn't that orange just sharing a story.

I don't feed them carrots, but they do get a serving of butternut squash once a week....which i believe is high in beta-carotine. However, i feed all my dragons like this, and he is the only one to develop this intense orange color.

Hey Kevin, I don't think either one of us meant anything. We were just goofing around. That is an awesome dragon. I do not think it is enhanced or false color by any means.

Don't take this the wrong way - that's a beautiful dragon. But did you alter the color in that picture at all? Even if you did, I have no doubts that is the nicest orange I have ever seen.

Mark

kretz11 Aug 20, 2003 11:50 AM

No....the picture was not altered at all. It was even taken when he was completely dry and indoors....

I understand that wetting can alter colors but why would it matter if it was taken indoors? I have found the most true color can be seen when outside in the shade...

GREAT dragon by the way.
