Thankfully, I have not needed to post questions regarding health issues, but I am very worried about Nacho. He hasnt been himself it that makes any sense. He hasnt really opened his eyes in days. He doesnt appear to be eating much if anything. He had a normal shed yesterday. Ate it and no traces left. His stools appear normal and he's not loosing any weight that i can notice. He's been in the same enclosure with the same food types (mealworms mostly). He has a UTH with a red light bulb at night when the house temp drops to under 80.. and its at 77 on the cool end durring the day. With the hot end about 90 (lately I have not had the extra night heat on because it only drops a few degrees..). I would love to see his pretty eyes, but he won't open them. They look normal from the outside, no signs of illness. I'm very worried.. any suggestions?? Please help.. PS; He is on paper towels or newspaper only. Never anything else. he also has a dish of calcium at all times. and i dust occasionally with vitamin with D3 powder.

It's hard to say- sounds like your husbandry is OK. I have heard of leos being impacted from mealworms, but not sure if that's confirmed. He may be brumating early, where are you located? The days are now getting shorter. If this is an adult, I would wait it out a few more days, he may not be eating if his tummy is full of shed. He may have a case of parasites, can be carried by prey items, so it wouldn't hurt to get a fecal done while he is still pooping, as if he continues not eating, it will be hard to get a fecal later. Double-chk temps, I'm assuming he has a water bowl (Yes?), and see how it goes for the next few days, while you get a fecal done. If no improvement, you may need to bring him in.

Basically, it's a cool period for over-wintering reptiles. You can find lots of info about it online, here or elsewhere- just do a search.

I gave him a humid shower for about 15 minutes and it did seem to help him with opening his eyes. One eye looked okay, but the other look hazed over.

It's hard to tell w/o any pics, but that "hazing" sounds like either a cataract or an eye infection. Either way, a vet visit is in order.

How is your leopard? Did it open both its eyes?
