didnt shed eye caps!

reptileboss Aug 12, 2007 09:48 PM

Just wondering what the best way to go about removing eyecaps is...I just bought a blood from kingsnake and when I got him I found that he has two unshed eyecaps!! He is about 4ft and very thick but the plus side is that he is super tame!! Ive never had to do this before, can anyone help me out??

I don't post here but I know of three ways.
1- steady hand and tweezers but I wouldn't do this method myself
2- spray water on the eye caps and use a q-tip to loosen
3- saw it on t.v. so bare with me but using a piece of scotch tape put over the retained eye cap and gently lift and since the skin is staying on the snake the only thing that can lift would be the eye cap(s) and I have never had any of my snakes not shed an eye cap but I would choose this method pretty much to see if it works or not but definately post the results for me so I know what's up with this method if you choose to go this route

hope this helps and I am very curious to see if any of these methods work for you

I have only had this happen to me once. I just waited until the next shed and it came off with that one. If it would have stayed, I would have called the vet. If they stay on for too long I would imagine it could lead to loosing the eye. (Think stuck tail tip sheds)

is the snake in fine shape except for the eye cap?

let it soak for 12 hours and take a damp cloth and GENTLY rub the cap off. if you still cannot get it off, let the snake soad for 2 more hours and try again....

i would never take straight up tweezers and pull off unshed eye caps that had not been soaked.....

take tweezers and pull those eyecaps without some soaking but I surely forgot to type it lol and thanks for the correction but hopefully you know what I meant

Just put a dab of neosporin on it and in a few hours it should be gone, Trust me, it works.
