4 out of 7 eggs pipped

ihilani13 Aug 13, 2007 05:08 PM

This is my first clutch ever. the first 2 eggs pipped yesterday afternoon, the other 2 this morning. The first 2 have now left the eggs. If the last 3 don't pip by tommorrow evening after work, I was thinking I may need to slit them (going by previous posts).
How can I slit them safely? They are in a pile as they were laid (I was unable to separate them in time). The 4 in the middle are pipped, it's the 3 on the outside that may need to be slit. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Use a small pair of medical scissors or nail scissors and carefully pinch a small amount of the egg and make a small cut. You can then CAREFULLY cut the egg open a little more I'd say you are safe to cut the remaining eggs if you want... but they should all pip themselves if they are healthy!

Thanks for the responses. I now have 4 emerged and 1 pipped. So I think I'll be cutting the last 2 tonight. Or should I give it another day? Tonight would be just about 2 days since the first pipped Sunday morn. Thursday will be 70 days since being laid. I don't want to kill them by cutting too early, but don't want them to die if they are alive? One of the eggs seems to be caving in a bit as of today. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Honestly, if they are healthy then expect them to hatch by themselves. You won't kill them by carefully making a small cut in the egg though.. just don't pull them out
