Shes 5 ft 8 inches and seems like she still keeps growing.

If you were a beginer, I would understand how you would be excited at the growth of a monitor. But, the truth is, they all grow like weeds. All you have to do is get out of the way. The truth is, hundreds and hundreds of people are raising monitors very successfully, but thanks for showing the beginers that monitors can grow.

Also, I spent some time this weekend with your friend Scott S. He is such a great guy. Frank

Have you ever gone to someones house that has younsters, and you notice those little horizontal penciled in lines on the bathroom wall? You find out that these wakos have been putting their kids back against the wall every couple months and inscribing a mark over its head!
I suppose some would think this an extremely odd ritual, but millions of parents partake in it daily. I guess its just an expression of parental love and adoration that leaves some of us bewildered.

And amazed at how she never stops growing in 2 inch spurts. Im hoping someone who thinks that cute little albig hatchling will only grow so much or fit in a _x_x_ cage realizes what they can be in for if they care for their animal correctly. I see a several 4-5 ft albigs for sale sometimes with the "I need more room theme" on the adds. I wish they would consider making room for them and living with their decisions to get a large monitor.
Hows Scott doing? I hope hes doin great. Rob Faust recently gave away several monitors to make room, but kept many of them also.

franky baby,
Are you telling me that you weren't in the least bit amazed with your monitors rapid growth in your early years. Wait... I was thinking that you acually wanted awarness about monitors and would like to see people taking care of them correctly. But, judging by your rude remarks, and the "well I have done this for years. Therefore I have the right to try to belittle people,"attitude, you obviously only want to feel superior over these other people that try to come here for help, knowlege and to talk with people that have the same intrest. I just personally wouldn't like to see any more of your condesending post to people that just want to show off some of their hard work. I guess if your screenname wasn't on this post anymore, well... I would have to chang my screen name then too, huh.
"dont take this the wrong way",
smoochie boochies,
your best buddy,
Dan

Hes is suprised that after 12 years with monitors the simple things still make me happy. I guess thats because I enjoy them so much. 2 things can make me forget the worst day at work my cycle and my monitors.

FR Aug 21, 2003 01:28 PM

I am sorry Dan, but simply put, this ain't then. Many years have passed and the bar is without a doubt not in the same place it was 30 years ago. It indeed has raised.(or should have)

Also, we have witnessed every quarter inch of growth of this monitor, since it was a baby. Thru text and pics. It does seem that now that it is not growing so much, we are recieving a review of the entire event.

Thru my horrible insults, maybe Shvar will set the bar a little higher and expect more from his charges. Hes not a beginer you know. He has been at this for many years. Thanks for clearing this up a little. F

Expect more from some of them, but Sobek is a pet and companion not a breeder, after all she cant reproduce anymore because of MY MISTAKE in substrate selection too late, oh well, live and learn now all of my reptiles period live on the same dirt.
By the way now that she is fixed, one of your WTs gets along with her and boy he drives off every male in site as well as tries to mount her when shes anywhere in site, problem is he is only 5lbs and about 3 ft (same age as Sobek), that little bugger scares away a 4ft 10 lb male WT named Blaize. Better luck maybe with Sedona the Ackie and Squirt the Timor. I appreciate your efforts in breeding beautiful animals as well as helping to educate others allthough somewhat rude in your own way, but I see where you come from with all of the "I just bought a savannah/nile monitor and know nothing about it types".

SHvar Aug 21, 2003 10:53 PM

Thats like saying you are the only one who breeds monitors period, hmmm. I say this because I made a growth chart of the first year and used info from pictures and info stored with them (for that purpose) and I still had missed several 2-4 inch growth spurts. Besides she still growing in 2 inch spurts at almost 22months old now, who was that expert that said they slow down at 4ft and take 3 months to show more noticeable growth?. By the way in 30 years there should be millions of pictures of female albigs 6ft at less than 2 years old right, oh right??? Hmm, Ive never seen or heard of one over 5ft yet, but weve passed that bar, haha, like the guy from Missouri said "Show Me!!". Show me a female albig 5ft 8inches at less than 22 months old and still growing, just an interesting challenge for someone like you.

bengalensis Aug 21, 2003 11:22 PM

My boy is approx 39 in and hes not 6 mo yet! I wish I would have kept a chart on him to see when hes had his spurts. I feel like a bad parent
Oh well, next time.

Michelle

SHvar Aug 24, 2003 02:49 AM

She grew 4-7 inches a month for her first year consistant, then when I thought she would slow down she kept it up until 5.5ft (a month ago she spurted again 2 inches.

SHvar Sep 13, 2003 09:53 AM

I have to remake the chart from my recent finding of her being even younger..

You must be glowing with pride! Your monitor is in handsome condition, and... wow. Size! *grin*

As for the nay-sayers; if you don't want to know, don't read the post. It's fairly simple.
Afterall, why is it so important to rain on someone else's parade?
I've been thrilled at the growth of my Sav's, and if I'd had a digital camera handy I'd be baraging you all with similar images.
We all appreciate that some of the experienced keepers aren't interested in growth spurts anymore, but then again... some are.
It's just like Bambi; remember? *griN*
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Again, beautiful pictures!
