My trials and tibulations so far

Guttersnacks Aug 14, 2007 02:32 PM

I got the guy pictured down below under the impression that it was eating on it's own, but my common sense told me I was probably being LIED to by the sales guy. All 4 babies in the deli cup were all shedding together, so I detected newborns.
So I brought the snake home. Tried deli-cupping with a F/T pinky. No luck. Waited a few days. Tried again. No luck.
I dont have access to lizards, so I lost my patience and started force feeding. I did this twice over the next 2 weeks, and tried to the deli cup again.
This little dude was pretty skinny when I tried a third time after it still wouldnt voluntarily eat. No luck. So, I scopped up the snake and a pinky, got on my hands and knees and held the snake just off the ground, enough to work with it. I stuck a pinky in it's mouth, and dropped it and then just froze still.
After 2-3 minutes of the snake catching it's breath and calming down, it started to swallow the pink. YAY!! Victory.
So, I tried that again last week, but the snake had some good weight on him. No luck.
I guess I need to wait until he gets a little thin again unfortunately.
I'm looking forward to the days when eating is not an issue. This guy has been a bit of a pain.

I dropped this guy into a deli cup and two pinkies yesterday morning and left for work.
I came home from work to find one pudgy snake, and one pinky. Awesome!
Hopefully this was not a fluke. If the next feeding in a week or two goes the same way, I'll feel relieved.
