I can't believe....

jiffypop Aug 20, 2003 06:24 AM

that John and Frank were both in Daytona and I didn't get the chance to meet them!! Boy, am I bummed. I did finally get to meet John and Sandy Binns and Joel...hung out at the conservation booth for a while talking and playing with the critters. I spent some time talking with Kevin (KWE) too. I had a great time and came home without another Cyclura! I did eye up a beautiful yearling Rhino that was very very blue. I handled it and decided that it was probably a male and I don't want a 3rd male Rhino. I think Joel mentioned a pair of hybrids that were there. They were beautiful animals even tho they weren't in the best condition. That made me very sad.

I've got lots of chores to catch up on. I'll be posting some photos later on.

Jane,

Did you get any pics of those Hybrids?

Bobby

Here is a photo of the two of them together. Later on I'll post a pic of the male and his messed up lip. They were asking $1000 each for them. I was very sad looking at them. They just don't look to be in very good condition.

tgreb Aug 22, 2003 09:54 AM

in that female-swollen front limbs??????

cycluracornuta Aug 22, 2003 10:11 AM

Which is surprising since the seller is from florida and had some awesome pictures of his huge facility.

tgreb Aug 22, 2003 11:44 AM

Whose table were they at?

bobl Aug 22, 2003 01:37 PM

If I was at the show I may have offered them $1200 for both of them. I'd like to know who had them and rescue them.

jiffypop Aug 22, 2003 02:46 PM

Bobby, I'm sure that I can find out. If you want the info I'll try to get it for you. I'll even offer to rehab the animals for you. I just hate seeing such magnificent creatures in such sad shape.

Backyard Exotics of Deltona, Florida. Last year they had sold some better looking animals -- both in health and blue coloring.

bobl Aug 22, 2003 09:53 PM

Do you know if they were they producing those animals that you saw last year or were they getting them from someone else?
Did you get any of those?

cycluracornuta Aug 23, 2003 12:53 AM

I would guess that he is producing some just because he had such a big facility, as to weather this years or lasts were his ? not knowing.

bobl Aug 22, 2003 11:25 AM

I should have known Steph was on the job with the camera!
Those are really pure looking animals and would be stunning if they were cared for properly.
I agree with tgreb regarding the look of mbd on the Hybrid in the fore front of the picture.
You're right Jane, I feel sad for them.

pure hybrid. Pretty typical I think. That price is crazy, 1200 is even high. I saw them too, they were not in good shape. I will agree that it was sad.

bobl Aug 22, 2003 09:32 PM

Your telling me you see pure looking Hybrids on a regular basis?
So you think these are regular looking Hybrids? I don't think so.
If that's the case I'd like to know where you are looking.
Even in their present condition those are much nicer looking than the majority of Hybrids that are and have been offered.

jf Aug 25, 2003 11:47 AM

"Your telling me you see pure looking Hybrids on a regular basis?"
no, didnt say that.

"So you think these are regular looking Hybrids?"
yup. I guess it depends on how many you have seen. Brown body, grey head that blues up in the sun- yeah typical. The whole cheveron thing is moot. lewisi in GC have dark cheverons, as do nubila, to me that doesnt matter. Maybe you have seen more but not ones you like.

"Even in their present condition those are much nicer looking than
the majority of Hybrids that are and have been offered."

If you think so great. I saw them and dont agree.

bobl Aug 26, 2003 12:29 PM

I didn't see them in person so I was only going by a picture that was sent to me by someone who was there. My bad!
I did get more detailed shots sent to me of those same lizards and they weren't looking too good.
Didn't mean to sound harsh!

Take Care

thinking those are real pure looking animals.

bobl Aug 22, 2003 09:37 PM

Why don't you show me some pictures of pure looking Hybrids.
What is your opinion of what a pure looking Hybrid looks like?
Perhaps the Cuban looking Cycluras with the tinge of blue on their heads anfd huge black chevrons is your idea of pure looking?
Those are a hell of a lot more pure looking than what I've seen lately.

reptileszz Aug 23, 2003 06:38 AM

I dont know about anyone else but I took the meaning to be "pure hybrid" as completely hybrid. I didnt take it to mean a more pure (lewisi looking) hybrid. That was just my interpretation.

Jane, I figured I would run into you somewhere during the show and was dissappointed that our paths did not cross. I was with my family and we spent only Saturday in Daytona and Fri/Sun at Disney World. Funny thing was Kids, liked the beach more than Disney, and if we had not already purchased 2 day tickets, we would have stayed in Daytona. I could have used the extra day as there was alot to learn from the people at the show.

Hi Jane, sadly I missed you, I waited around in the lobby both days at the Adams Mark, I also chatted with the Binn's, they said you were already there, well maybe next time; Phil..

fhayden1 Aug 21, 2003 12:10 AM

Hi Jane,
I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you. When I got to the show I forgot the information that you emailed me. I walked around the show hoping I'd bump into Sue or Dan. The show was so crowded I didn't see them. I thought if I saw them I could meet you.

I joined the iguana society. I've been corresponding with Jonh for a long time now. It was good to meet him in person.

I saw the hybrids too. I agree they didn't looked to happy. I saw some Rhino's as well for $200, I think.

Anyhow, I've got some really good news. My wife and I were approved for our first mortgage. We are planning to buy a house in the counry so I can build outdoor enclosures for all my cyclura. I plan to construct a seperate building from the house for my other Reptiles.

Well, I hope to see you another time.
Take Care,
Frank
