two mice

mustang67ford Aug 20, 2003 07:26 AM

Well, I fed my snake yesterday. He is about 18-20" long and still a baby. I have been feeding 1 mouse every 5 days, but I tried tow mice this time and he ate them right up. My question is should I still feed him every 5 days or go to every 7? Also, I usually feed him white mice but they were out of them this time so I tried the black ones and it did not made a difference to him. Although the black mice seem to be a little quicker. He missed the first one twice when striking, but to give him a handy cap, is eyes just cleared up so he is about to shed.

you really should think about feeding your snake dead mice. the risk of your snake getting bit by the mouse is way more than the reward of seeing your snake attack a live mouse. get yourself some hemostats, and a nice leather glove, and feed your snake with that. i found a nice pair of 12" hemostats by searching on Google, for around $10. it's well worth it.

i feed Monty (she's 42", 1100g) every 7 days, 2 jumbo (rodentpro.com) mice. she'd probably take 3, but there's no reason to overfeed.

i feed Musota (it's about the same size as yours, 16-18", 250g) every 7 days one large adult mouse. i might try 2 mice this weekend, just to see if it will take it.

my snakes don't mind the color difference, although people will tell you some snakes like black mice better, because there's no white mice in the wild.
