HELP! Snake didn't eat properly...

martini5 Aug 15, 2007 08:28 AM

Hi,

Newbie here. We have a ball python about 5 months old. We fed her a larger-sized hopper mouse last night and unfortunately, she tried to swallow him from the middle of his body, so he basically folded in half with his nose and feet all facing forward toward the snakes nose (make sense?) By the time we realized this, the mouse was down far enough that we couldn't do annything. This morning the mouse is still in the neck area just past the snakes head. Should I just bring the snake to the vet? Can they do anything at this point?

Thanks for your help!
Jen

omg ! umm... havent heard about that before... i know in force feeding u can gently rub the food down to the belly. but in that case i wouldnt tell u to do that cuz i dont know the outcome of it. does ur snake seem fine ?

I might try a pair of hemistats to "right the ship" or remove it altogether! I only go to a vet when it's ABSOLUTELY necessary! And my vet knows what he's doing, he's got his own collection!

Thanks everyone. We took her to a vet and they removed the mouse. It turns out that she has an infection which is why she had trouble eating. She's at home now and doing much better.

Thanks again.
