I just recently purchased a dwarf caiman. Ive had him for a week now and he hasnt eaten. What are some tips to get your caiman to eat?

1st I would get him wormed (I am assuming he is not CB). Then offer him live hopper mice, crickets and feeder fish. I would offer the food at night and not check on him until the morning. I think the most important things are to make sure his caging makes him feel secure and to just leave him alone as much as possible.

Give him a good dark hiding spot, throw in some live feeders (minnows would work well) and don't disturb him.

Great advice on the last two posts. I would only add that our hatchling enjoyed a large terrestrial area of limbs/snags, leafy/soil/mulch layer and lots of leaves. Otherwise, just give the little croc time to adjust and acclimate. Make sure you are paying close attention to the water temps.

When I got my baby spec caiman, he didnt eat for 1-2 weeks. Just make sure he has a hiding place (like a shade or something) and enough water to swim in. Give him a few pinkies. Leave him all alone after that. Mine still wont eat in front of me. Also, the water temp should be like 83-85 F atleast. If the water temp drops below 73 or so, I have read they totally stop eating. Dont despair, he will start eating soon hopefully.
