corn snakes are nocturnal for sure right?

birdhou53 Aug 20, 2003 08:41 AM

they will be very boring during the day but very active at night am i correct? so should i put in a "60 watt" or "100 watt" Nocturnal blue light that stimulates "moon light" so that my corn will be active even during the day? or do they have like time clocks in their bodies that tell them when it is night time and when it is daytime.

Is there anyone here who uses the blue or red light on 24/7? im really not sure about lighhting for corns....i dont wanna stress mine out..Thanks :D

When I only had two snake I kept them in cages and had a 60 watt I/R (Red) bulb running most of the time, depending on temp. You can try to fool them in to thinking it is night, but they are very sensive to temp and light. So any light from windows or doors and a vented cage lets in room air so they can tell when the temp drops these elements usually make it difficult to fool the snake.

I rarely see any of my snakes moving during the day, unless there relieving themselves.I keep all my snakes in my bedroom/reproom.They all seem to enjoy watching TV at night for some reason.

I would skip the heat lamp and use under the tank heating at one end of the tank. This way ther is less chance of over heating and your snake can chose its own temp.My corns are more active at night but are sometimes active in the day time also.
