cash or debit card?? daytona spending

spider916 Aug 16, 2007 03:49 PM

i have saved 4000$ to invest, if i find the right animals in daytona. my problem is that i dont exactly want to carry that much cash. are more vendors set up to take credit cards or debit cards. dont get me wrong if they arent then i will bring cash but i would feel more comfortable using a card.

Lol, there will be people with alot more cash than that...ad another zero I know I wont, but I have seen it, 10k there is not a big deal...

spider916 Aug 16, 2007 04:13 PM

i know that people will have more. i was simply refering to the fact that i dont like carrying that much cash and was wondering if vendors will be set up to take cards.

Do take debit and credit cards as they also pay taxes You should not have a problem paying via a card. I know as a vendor taking cards at at a larger show is sometimes a relieve. Cargo shorts will 4 pockets of cash can be a bit nerve racking caring around for days as a vender as well

You'll get things cheaper if you have cash!

boadave1313 Aug 16, 2007 04:54 PM

j35j said it best!! if you have cash you usally can get better deals! it cost the vender 3% of there sale if you use a card, it doesnt seem like alot but it adds fast!! 100,000.00 is 3k in lost money! with cash in hand you can wheel and deal..if you dont think he is gonna give ya a deal just show him money, then if he doesnt want to deal...say let me look around if i cant find a better deal i`ll be back!! by now he should grabbing your shirt saying whoa nelly!! money talks!! by the end of the day if they havent made any money they`ll bargin with ya!!

just my 2 cents!! boadave

That try and beat you up. Often those are the guys that want to be behind the tables the following year so don't forget to offer them $0.10 on the dollar either....

Buy quality animals from quality vendors that will be around long after the sale and have piece of mind that you will be taken care of and have a help line should you ever need it. Saving a $100 often cost you 10 X in the long run...

i know what you mean neil! but when you have cash its easier to make deals! when you use your card the vendor is already taking a little loss so your deal wont be much! as for info. if you do your homework you will know who to buy from and who not too, but if bob clark is selling a albino ball for 150.00 less then you because you wont make a deal, is that a reason to get beat up over, because you wont deal and he did!! there are lots of big time breeders that are willing to deal if you have cash in hand!! and i have been buying animals from big breeders for years and they do make deals!! but i have also seen the biggest breeders in the world treat people unfair unless they had money to buy!!......i hope he gets a good deal with for whom ever he buys from! cash or card!............boadave

Boadave, you are correct, vendors need to be competitive and buyers / sellers need to both feel like they were treated fairly. I'm more of a long term kinda guy. I don't want to sell someone one snake or one rack, I want to sell them 10 snakes, the racks to house them in and I want to answer each every question that they have from basic care to incubation and to suggestions on moving their offspring once produced. That first interaction is the most important. As a seller I want a buyer who wants to buy from me because of that, I'm willing to deal with the rest of them, I just don't like the guys who come up to tables and spit out a price, flash cash and at a blink of eye are gone to run off to the next table.

Take care, have a good night and please stop by and say hi this weekend if your in town...

I have always taken my card also, along with plenty of cash. when you find yourself with no cash left the card is always a good backup for the ones you cant live without. The only other drawback to a card is it is usually so slow, so many people in one building running cards.

jyohe Aug 16, 2007 07:56 PM

the beggers on the street will be glad you took cash..

everywhere you go there will be people (male) asking "you got a dolla man?"....."spare a dolla man?"........

the one pair was wearing good shorts and shirts ,shoes and all.........we just came from the second bar ......2 of us in front of the third guy.......he just says to them "hit the ....ing pike junior".......LOL........they laid back, hands up saying"I'll just gove you some space brother"......all I heard was......"ask for a dolla and they got on 100$ shoes and $50 shorts"......LOL............some we gave a dolla.......one asked for a cig......we gave him a pack..he left us alone the rest of out trip........while he fed the pigeons part of his McYD burger bun.......

........I had $4G in my pocket........it ain't fun......be careful...........you'll spend it too by the way.......I hnded 2 envelopes to Brian the long haired cute guy .......albino male..........this year you can get 3 or more or that (2G)...

Isn't there anyone out there that has rent to pay too??? Simply PAYING for the trip just to BE THERE put a'hurtin on my pocket.. Hell, I'm STILL recouping from the last few snakes and housing I bought... All this talk of cash, I'll be lucky if I'm coming with a quarter of what he's bringing.

Do you have to be rich to go to Daytona?? I have never been, my flight leaves in a few hours, and its sounds like if you're not rich, you might as well not be there.

pfan151 Aug 17, 2007 11:43 AM

This year you won't have to be rich. There is going to be plenty of deals there. I am only bringing $1300 and I am planning on getting a Male lesser and a male albino with that.

i am actually an average joe i just happened to be disiplined when it comes to saving for snake buying. i am a painter making 40k a year i just bought a house and have plenty of bills. i just really try to find weekend side jobs for cash and save it for this time of year.i plan on trying to make the best deals possible with reputable people so that my money goes as far as it can. i also happen to be lucky in that i live only an hour and a half away from daytona. i booked my room at the hilton many many many months ago and go with my fiance and her friend so we split the cost of the trip. it is what works for me .i hope you all have fun at the show. it is one for the common man if you just shop and enjoy yourself.
