Water bowl

iwish7284 Aug 16, 2007 07:17 PM

I have a yearling that keeps tipping over his tupperware water bowl. Its making a mess and im afraid he is going to get sick cuz he does it every day.

What do you guys use for water bowls for a heavy BP?

ceramic
stoneware
crock
and make sure it has no outer lip or edge that snake can get ahold of.....smooth sided and flat and heavy....

........I never get tipped bowls.........but they crawl inside and fill it with body and all water will come out......

7 pound snakes (or more or less).....will take alot of room up

i use a ceramic bowl that i got from exoterra at a show there about10" in diameter and 5 inches deep only $7

I have hot glued deli cups in all of my snakes cages. I can then put another cup inside of that cup, and I just take the non-glued deli cup out and refill it or throw it away.

thats a lot of deli cups

royalkreationz Aug 16, 2007 09:21 PM

You can throw away a deli cup and put in a new one. This cuts cleaning time in half. I get my deli cups from ARS Cages. Small delis for hatchlings and juvies are 500 for $35 and $45 for 500 larges for adults. That is pretty cheap compared to $5-$7 each for non disposable water bowls.

i guess.i prob dont have as many herps as u do so its a little cheaper for me. i will look into it tho.

i have about 24 snakes, but I am preparing for growth. Starting this method now will make my transition to a large number of snakes easier.

16 oz deli cup in a 4" PVP pipe coupling. I've never had one knocked over, and they're easy to change/clean. Moved, yes, knocked over, no. Even with 3900 g females.

I use the exact same end caps. I bought them from Home Depot. They work great. I drop deli cups in and switch them out as needed. I have had them flip a couple of times, but both times it was the same female, so go figure...

I buy these:

superiorenterprise.com/product_info.php?products_name=8-oz.-water-bowl-with-lid-350-units&products_id=127

And put them into 4" white PVC couplings that you can buy at Menards/Home Depot/Lowes for about $1.10 each. The snakes can't tip them over and the water bowls are only big enough for them to dip their heads into to drink instead of crawling into it. I toss the bowl every Sunday and put in a new one -- keeps things sanitary.
