help ID this snake?

redmoon Aug 16, 2007 07:28 PM

This is a friend's snake. When he bought it, there was no species labeled. So far, he's had people tell him it's an Andean milk, a Jalisco milk, and a scarlet king. We're leaning towards either an Andean or Jalisco, but we were wondering if anyone here would be able to help with anything. The closest measurement is "more than 30 inches," so that kind of rules out scarlet king in our eyes, but, neither of us are Lampropeltis experts. Any help here? Thanks.

Could it be the elusive "monster island" scarlet king? JUST KIDDING! Not sure what it is but its NOT a scarlet king. Ken

Monster Island scarlet is a good one and I'm rethinking my entire collection now!!
I'm thinking Ruthveni, not sinaloan, nelsoni, annulata, etc...
Maybe Shannon will give an opinion on arcifera.

100% ruthveni. It may have been sold as a jalisco because there is a strain of ruthveni that came from Tapalpa Jalisco and they were calling them Jalisco Milks. All said and done its a classic ruthveni for sure.
