Rodent watering supplies

TomChambers Aug 20, 2003 09:43 AM

Is there someplace I can buy just the metal tubes with the stopper-balls inside??? I want to hook up all my colonies to a single water reservoir to make life easier.
Thanks for any replies

That looks like a sweet setup you got there. Is that a vent tube going out the ceiling to remove oder????
Also do you use the "Edstrom Vari-Flo Valves" ???? if so how do you like them??? are they constructed well ??
Thanks again

I went with the vari-flo valves, and they are awsome. No more leaks.

Instead of buying thier 3 cage starter set up. I bought the 6 cage expansion kit and bought the outlet valve seperate. Used a bucket i had lie'ing around. ended costing the same.

take care

Thanks. Yes, I use the variflow valves. I've used them is several racks so far and they have never given me a problem. Let me emphasize never. I live in an apartment and don't have anywhere to put a rack outside, so i came up with the idea to enclose a rack and have the exhaust vent suck the odor outside. The bottom of the rack is pegboard and then the laundry vent in the top to the exhaust vent. It works great. I never have to worry about them getting too cold or too hot. I don't have to go outside to feed, water, clean or grab a few to feed off. The only complaint of course is the smell for the few minates it takes to clean the tubs. All I do is close my door open the window and have a box fan suck the air outside. Works well. I'm in the process of putting the plans for several of these types of racks on my website. Go check them out. I'll have pictures of my new rack I just finished that replaced the one in the previous pic. I'll have several different sizes and types of racks to choose from. Thanks, Chris

I'm also planning on drawing up plans for snake racks that are of a similar design. I made a melamine rack about a year ago and it is just too heavy. It holds heat really well, but I think I would rather be able to move it more easily. For cleaning and such.

A pic of my snake rack.

I have three mouse and 2 rat colonies, so I was just thinking of buying the 5 valves and fabricating the rest out of parts/pieces I have lying around the house.
That is a nice snake rack Chris. I only have 8 snakes right now, but I'm going to breed 2 or 3 females this winter, so I need to stop dragging my feet and build a decent rack system.
Thanks again
