dhobbs Aug 17, 2007 07:57 AM

I work in a nature center and a wild miksnake was brought in to us...she soon laid 18 eggs...they have now all hatched. I have raised corn snakes before, but what is the feeding procedure for these guys...? Please advise! Dan

Hi,
wait after a few days after the first shedding an then give them small baby-mice. And you should seperate the hatchlings.

Dan, can you please post a picture of the female and have something in the picture for a size reference?

What type of milk snake do you have...the correct care can vary depending on the species.

Dan is probably referring to eastern milksnakes. When i was a teenager in NW Ohio I got clutches of 12-18 eggs from wc of that ssp...

Hey,
These were from an Eastern, found in NE Indiana. Thanks for the fast responses...sounds like the same care my hatchling corns would get; pinkie mice after the first shed.
Any other suggestions, if different than corn care...?

Make sure and provide a container/hide area with higher humidity. Many baby snakes are susceptible to dehydration. I give my baby milks two hides: one is an empty toilet paper tube, the other is a deli cup filled with moist paper towels and a hole cut into the side for the snake to enter and exit.
Good luck!
