I'm just getting into corns. I need a little help with genetics.

Hello, I have a few glass 20 gal I wanted to set up for a pair of corns. I bought the stuff to go in then, just need the snakes, lol. I was thinking about getting a pair het for another morph. I'm interested in breeding them in the future, and just thought it would be cool to get a few different possibilities from one mating. I was looking at an amel het for blizzard and a charcoal het for blizzard. Here is where I need a little help. If those were mated would some hatchlings be blizzard and the rest show normal poss. het for amel or charcoal? See I'm a bit lost with this. Can anybody help with this? How about a good page that explains the genetics in corns? That would be a great help. Thanks.

An amelanistic (heterozygous charcoal) x charcoal (heterozygous amelanistic) would, statistically, produce

1/4 normal (heterozygous amelanistic, heterozygous charcoal)
1/4 amelanistic (heterozygous charcoal)
1/4 charcoal (heterozygous amelanistic)
1/4 amelanistic, charcoal AKA blizzard

Two useful sites are www.ballpythons.com and www.serpwidgets.com. However, you may need to check a good genetics text for a discussion of the branching system as a replacement for the Punnett square. IMHO, only masochists routinely use Punnett squares for problems involving more than one locus. But I haven't seen a good discussion of it on the web.

Paul:

I've seen you post similar remarks before. Please elaborate. Why don't you post a concise explanation of this system, so that we can all use it? If you have already posted such info, can you provide us a link to that archive?
