Hognose Bite

mblons Aug 17, 2007 05:40 PM

I am getting a hognose and wanted to ask a question BEFORE I am bitten which I do not expect to happen but.... What is the best way to get him off before the little rascal gets his fangs into my hand. Thanks.

Put him under cold running water, ot have a spray bottle handy with a diluted rubbing alcohol mix in it.

Scope.
My hoggie has never bitten me - though she sure does strike an aweful lot. But when my cal kings tag me and refuse to let go, dip a q-tip in scope and swab it on their nose/mouth - and they let go instantly.

Do not pry a snake off, that can damage the snakes teeth/jaw.

My hog hasn't bit yet either, but the cal kings ate eating machines and think everything is food. I have a discarded and washed nasel spray bottle filled with gin. It is "non-toxic" and tastes bat to the snake. Works like a charm.
