Identification Help

captnemo Aug 18, 2007 03:51 AM

This is a snake I received from a friend after a friend of his purchased it at a flea market as a Ball Python....yes a Ball Python. Most of the responses I've gotten on the "What Kind" forum and "Hybrid" forum (I think it may be one) have pointed me in this direction through their suggestions. If anyone can identify it, I'd be very appreciative (especially if you can tell me it's not a mix! LOL). Thanks.

Doesn't look like a Pit to me looks more like some sort of Rat snake.

looks like a cross. def. not a fox(I grew up with E. fox snakes in NW Ohio)-though there might be some of that in there. just what is in there is guesswork, but it doesn't really closely resemble pure anything. It's mostly or totally ratsnake-if there's pit in there I'd say very little-less than 1/4.

the only thing that made me think fox was the blockier head, but still not haveing keeled scales. The coloration doesn't remind me too much of a fox though. deffinatley some sort of hybrid/integrade

Thanks for the help....the scales are indeed keeled, the profile keeps making me think pit every time I look at it. I guess this is why I don't really like hybrids. Well, off to the Elaphe Forum! On a mission, now! LOL

Here's a picture w/ the flash. Another important piece of info I left out is that he's got a divided anal plate. Does this change anyone's first impression? Thanks again for all the responses.
